As an African American myself, I can tell you firsthand that travel has completely shifted my perspective on the world and my roots.

Growing up, money was always tight, so the idea of traveling far seemed out of reach. But when I finally got the chance to go overseas, it felt like entering a whole new world. Exploring different cultures and delving into history opened my eyes to aspects of life I'd never known before. It made me feel stronger and more connected to my identity.

What really drew me to traveling was how it allowed me to explore my heritage in a way school never could. In school, we mostly learned about the tough times African Americans faced, like slavery. But traveling across Africa and beyond, I discovered a whole different side of our story—one filled with resilience and greatness. I learned about ancient African kingdoms where our ancestors were rulers, not slaves, and it changed everything I thought I knew.

In Africa, I found a melting pot of cultures and histories that amazed me. Learning about these ancient kingdoms challenged what I'd been taught in school and showed me the richness and diversity of African history.

By immersing myself in different cultures and meeting people from all over, I've built connections that transcend borders. It's shown me just how strong and diverse the African spirit is, no matter where we are in the world.
